I didn’t fall out of love…I began to deeply dislike the person he had become…and perhaps always was…
Selfish, deceitful, untrustworthy and arrogant-devoid of integrity…
And now…”at last”… he is simply a gentle rain in my soul rather than the wind beneath my wings.
The shift from love turning into profound disappointment, and finally settling into quiet indifference—is one of the most profound and quiet victories of the human spirit…and for me…long overedue.
The “wind beneath your wings” implies dependence…it’s a force you rely on to keep you “high”, but one that can easily turn into a destructive storm where you do not land on your feet…but face down in the gutter…He no longer has the power of the wind. He isn’t carrying me, knocking me over, or determining my direction.
A “gentle rain,” however, doesn’t demand anything from you. It simply falls, washes over the landscape of your memory, and nourishes the ground so that you stand rooted in your beauty and in your truth…and is primed for whatever you choose to plant next.
It recognizes that he was a season in my life, and no longer part of my landscape.
To watch someone transform into a person you can no longer respect…and to honor your own growth enough to walk away from that dynamic…is a deep act of self-love, spiritual maturity and emotional intelligence.
I did not compromise my heart…I allowed the storm to pass until only the soft, peaceful rain remained…marking the quiet beginning of my inner peace…my wellness…MY way…
Walking in the rain…on my own two feet.
The mission…
Accomplished.
Love and blessings,
Wendy
